You always hear that if you ever knew all the details about pregnancy, no one would ever go through with it. Well, the same is true for the first year of being a parent as well. People keep all the real stuff bottled up and just tell you all the good stuff- like it’s all rainbows and sunbeams. It’s definitely more like cobwebs and rainbows and rainbows and cobwebs. Anyone catch the 30 Rock reference? I like to keep it real, so today you are going to learn that weaning from breastfeeding is hard. Like really hard. Not only is it painful, but all those hormones come back and you are like one crazy, sweaty person all over again.
Oh, no one told you about the post pregnancy sweats??? Yeah. You get real sweaty. All those hormones surging. It’s like you’re a 14 year old boy or a menopausal woman. Well, the same thing happens when you wean from breastfeeding. The sweats come back like whoa. You get sad- you sweat. You get mad- you sweat. You exercise- you sweat profusely.
I’ve never been a really sweaty person. I would take a spin class and just “glow”. I never formed any sweat puddles like others. Sweat puddles are gross. Now, I’m still not puddle producing, but I am definitely dropping beads of sweat and that “glow” is more like a stinky, schweaty mess. It don’t look so pretty after class (if you know what I mean).
I’m waiting for the day that the milk dries up and I’m hoping that takes my schweatyness away. Until then, I’ll be teaching class and sweating like a champ. I do think I’ve heard or read that if you sweat more and do so more quickly it is a sign of how fit you are. That’s true isn’t it??? I’m not just making this up??? Maybe I am. I’m going to believe it for now. Makes me feel less of a mess.
This playlist got me particularly sweaty. Like the last list, the mashups/remixes are missing (5 missing songs total)- I don’t know how to fix that. Maybe you can see the songs if you go to the list on Spotify? This was a 45 minute ride, endurance based with a couple hills and sprints at the end. I was reading an article that most spin classes don’t focus enough on endurance, so the last couple of rides, I’ve been trying to keep the majority of the ride at 65-75% maximum heart rate. It seems like it would make the ride easier, but if you are doing it right (on the verge of being uncomfortable), it is actually a great mind/body workout.

I would like to point out one of the mashups on here. The “Nothing on Roar Bloom Affair” mashup. I love it. Maybe it’s because my hormones are back like they were in the 7th grade, but I am digging that they put Nirvana in here. I was listening to it on my run this morning (where I somehow managed to almost break my ankle and foot- don’t ask) and I just love it.

I can’t believe that I haven’t posted about this yet! Sometimes your life just needs an awesome soundtrack. Last Thursday I was so excited to debut my All Things Jackson: Janet vs Michael playlist. I mean, Janet…Michael…it was gonna be epic.
The Jackson’s mean business and a lot of their songs have such a strong beat that the ride ended up being pretty darn hilly. Strength rides; I love ’em.
I taught this class twice in one day. My hamstrings, quads, and glutes were pretty toasted after the second class. I think people really liked the ride. They were all about the theme. I even got a couple “woo’s!” after I announced the theme. I mean, who doesn’t like some Jackson?!?! One person told me that the class was good training for riding the hills on the actual roads. All in all, this ride was a winner!
So….it was really hard to choose which songs to use. There are a lot of great songs that I just couldn’t fit in. I only have 45 minutes. So which ones did I choose? Take a look! P.S. This playlist says 50min, but it’s just because I added some extra music for when people were packing up.

So yeah, this ride was a lot of hills and power surges. The only sprints were Bad and Beat It. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?!?!
Ah, Saturday class. Ah, theme rides. My favorites.
The “It’s a “love” song” playlist was done in honor of one of my old fav spin teachers. Basically, she would call every song a love song. I found it funny. I decided it was time that I created my own love song playlist.
I think that most of us could use a little bit more love in our lives. Whether we are showing ourselves some love (aka being a bit easier on ourselves) or showing others some love (a little smile never hurt anyone). With all the shootings and horrific news stories, it’s just time we all take a moment and show a little love and compassion for ourselves and others. Pay a little more attention to life happening around us and not on our screens. It’s not hard. It really could be as easy as a small smile or hello to a stranger on the street. A little bit of love can go a long way…so could gun control, but that’s a whole other post for a different time.

I have to say, I LOVED this playlist. I think the class was a pretty intense one. I burned 600 calories and was sweaty like whoa. My guilty pleasure love song was the last spring, “One way love”. I’m not sure of the lady’s real name, but I have it in there as Dottie because she plays Dottie in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. This song is from one of my favorite movies of all time, Better Off Dead. If you’re a fan of the movie, you probably recognize the song. It has been sung in the car many times with my hair blowing in the air conditioner turned wind machine. Yes. I love a wind machine.
Isn’t her silver lamé dress amazing! Classic 80’s movie dance sequence. LOVE.
And some love for outside of the spin room…Orange is the New Black. Loved the first two episodes of Season 2 and can’t wait to watch more tonight!
