Apparently there is a spider (or a band of spiders) living in my bed or somewhere near my bed and he/she is out to get me. This spider has been attacking me for the past few months. Never two days in a row, maybe not even twice in a week, but it manages to get me just as all my old bites heal up. I actually have a scar on one of my arms from one of the bites. Yeah, this spider is a tricky little devil that means business.

Also, this spider doesn’t like to bite once or twice in a night; it likes to get me at least 3-4 times. I don’t really know what to do. I’ve washed our sheets multiple times, I’ve swept underneath the bed, I bought a new mattress liner….what more can I do???

And here is the real kicker…this spider doesn’t like to bite my husband, oh no….only me. What the hell is up with that?!?!?! My husband thought I was crazy at first. He was like,”It’s just mosquito bites”. And I was like, “Oh no. I do not react with huge itchy bumps when it’s a mosquito bite”.

I have bites on my hip, my ass, my bikini line, and now my arm. Luckily, this spider has spared my face, but I’m sure that is next on his/her list. What am I to do???? Seriously, tell me. I’m totally open to suggestions, so if anyone is reading this and has any ideas, let me know. I mean,¬†this is insane. We even checked the bed for bed bugs, but no sign of those and I’m pretty sure bed bugs would get any and all people in the bed. I’m not sure why this spider only has a taste for me, but I am done.

Spinning & Drinking & Eating

Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving???

I’m sure if you take spin/cycling classes, you’ll hear a lot of “work hard so you can eat more” or “we gotta burn off all that food we are going to eat”. Yeah…I don’t say those kinds of things. I don’t believe in the “you ate it, now negate it” motivation. Now exercising in order to drink a delicious libation….I’m all over that! If you need a Thanksgiving themed drink, try this Pumpkin Margarita. It is Mmm, Mmm good! I didn’t create the recipe, but I can’t find the link to it.

For Pumpkin Simple Syrup
1 can organic pumpkin puree (canned actually works better than fresh in this case)
1/2 cup organic brown sugar
1/4 cup organic sugar
1 cinnamon stick
2 cups water

For Margarita
1 1/2 oz organic tequila (try 4 Copas)
1/2 oz Cointreau
1 organic lime

For Garnish
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp salt
A pinch of nutmeg

  1. Make a pumpkin simple syrup by combining pumpkin puree with brown sugar, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and water in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Stir constantly for 20 to 30 minutes, until cinnamon flavor is present and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and cool. The Simple syrup should have the consistency of a thin smoothie.
  3. Pass the thick syrup through a fine mesh sieve (or a strainer), using the back of a spoon and discard the pumpkin pulp.
  4. Prep margarita glasses by combining sugar, allspice, and salt and pouring the mixture onto a small plate. Run a wedge of lime around the rim of each margarita glass, and then dip the glass rim into spiced sugar.
  5. For each margarita, combine the juice of half a lime, tequila, Cointreau, and 2 oz pumpkin simple syrup. Shake well and serve on the rocks. Enjoy!

I was planning on reviving an old Thanksgiving playlist or creating a new one, but time got the best of me and I figured since my classes are Monday & Tuesday this week, there was no need to theme it up.

You guys know how I love a theme though. Saturday’s class theme was “One Hit Wonders” and it was cheezy, and fun, and all kinds of wonderful. All kinds of wonderful filled with sweat. Appetizing.

Here is the playlist! Full of some amazing 80’s and 90’s “classics”.

As always, I had a couple remixes in there. I put the original’s in the Spotify list for you since the remixes don’t show up. Here they are, if you are interested.

So that’s all from this neck of the woods. Just spinning, eating, and drinking in store! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving if you are celebrating!

There HAD to be a Buzzfeed

Yup. Buzzfeed has finally tried it’s hand at understanding the mind of spinners. All I have to say is….TOALLY #7!!!!!!!! Oh…and #13. It’s entertaining, but these moves are NOT safe and would never truly be called “spin”. I don’t think this is the best Buzzfeed list I’ve ever seen, but #7 makes it all worth it.

Click here: 18 Things Only Spin Fans Will Understand

You guys. I know I owe you some new playlists. Things have been pretty busy around here, but they will be up soon. Get ready for a hills & intervals profile and an oldies vs hip hop playlist! When???? Hopefully soon. ūüôā

Transforming my living room

These days I am all about¬†transforming my living room. Blame it on Property Brothers! Ha! Well…actually, I’m not talking house renovations…Although, I do love the Property Brothers and if I ever do own my own house, well, I hope they can help me find or design my dream home. Open floor concept, a garage, counter and closet space are all a must!

I’m actually transforming my living room with DVD’s and YouTube videos. Now that I’ve quit my 9-5 job and am a stay-at-home-mama, money is quite a bit tighter. Gone are the days of spending my¬†mula on studio classes. Just because I can’t afford to take a class in-studio, doesn’t mean that I have to say sayonara to some of my favorite workouts.

Say whaaaaat?!?

You heard me. I’m still bellying up to the barre (ahem, kitchen chair) and enjoying some savasana…in my living room. YOUTUBE AND DVD’s TO THE RESCUE!!!! It’s like a specialty class oasis in here now! Can’t you just taste the cucumber water?

If you’re like me and can’t (or don’t want) to pay $100+ dollars for specialty classes, fire up that laptop and get a great workout for free. Not only are the workouts waist and wallet friendly, you can do them whenever it’s convenient for you.

I’m just beginning to really search on YouTube for workouts, but here are a few that I have found lately:

YouTube Yoga Find

It’s been over nine months since I yoga’d. After realizing how tight my hips and hamstrings were, it was time to get my om on. I searched for “power yoga” and stumbled upon Ali Kamenova’s YouTube channel. Her workouts are tough…especially if you resemble the Tin Man.

She has a lot of videos and I’ve done a few of them so far. This hip opener class was really challenging for me. Her doggy always makes an appearance too, which sometimes makes me lose my focus, but I don’t really mind it. Her body is rockin’ and so are her classes!

YouTube brings the Barre

Ahh, Barre workouts. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the concept, but I’ve always hated how much they cost. I’ve been trying to get some barre workouts in at least 1-2 times a week. Trying to tighten up this postpartum belly is proving to be quite the challenge!

The Fitnessista¬†has some barre burner workouts. They are short and can be repeated. I like to do these videos when I’m tight on time. This total body barre burner¬†was great!

When I have some more time, I like to try and get a longer workout in and I’ve done this barre workout by Brittany Bendall twice. I really like it! Her music is pretty darn good too! First she takes you through an arms section, then legs, then abs. Definitely gets it all burnin’!

I’ve found some more YouTube barre workouts, but I’ve yet to try them! I’ll let you know once I do.

Dusting off the¬†DVD’s

Since I’ve had the tiny man, my DVD player has been getting a workout along with me! I am kind of the queen of fitness DVD’s. I have Jackie, Jillian, P90x, MTV yoga & pilates (these DVD’s are pretty old, but they are awesome), Physique 57, and the newest video in my collection…Buti Yoga.

I saw a commercial for Buti Yoga while I was pregnant and (of course) I was like, “I totally need this!”. Thanks to my mama for indulging my Christmas wish, I finally got to break out the DVD in April. Now, if you are a yoga purist, you are not going to like this workout. If you like a little funk in your yoga, you’re gonna love it. Think yoga meets belly dancing meets African dance with some mountain climbers and burpees thrown in for good measure.

All of my DVD’s have been getting some play time, but Buti Yoga is on repeat. I’ve been doing the 45 min workout, but I think I’m ready to take on the 60 min.

So…what is the point of all of this??? Well, you don’t have to spend buku bucks to get your sweat on to boutique classes. Whether it’s Buti, Barre, or yoga…you can get it done in the comfort of your own home. Obviously, DVD’s cost a bit of money, but no where near the cost of in studio classes.

Do you use YouTube to get your sweat on? Know of any channels I should be subscribing to? Let me know!
