These days I am all about transforming my living room. Blame it on Property Brothers! Ha! Well…actually, I’m not talking house renovations…Although, I do love the Property Brothers and if I ever do own my own house, well, I hope they can help me find or design my dream home. Open floor concept, a garage, counter and closet space are all a must!
I’m actually transforming my living room with DVD’s and YouTube videos. Now that I’ve quit my 9-5 job and am a stay-at-home-mama, money is quite a bit tighter. Gone are the days of spending my mula on studio classes. Just because I can’t afford to take a class in-studio, doesn’t mean that I have to say sayonara to some of my favorite workouts.
You heard me. I’m still bellying up to the barre (ahem, kitchen chair) and enjoying some savasana…in my living room. YOUTUBE AND DVD’s TO THE RESCUE!!!! It’s like a specialty class oasis in here now! Can’t you just taste the cucumber water?
If you’re like me and can’t (or don’t want) to pay $100+ dollars for specialty classes, fire up that laptop and get a great workout for free. Not only are the workouts waist and wallet friendly, you can do them whenever it’s convenient for you.
I’m just beginning to really search on YouTube for workouts, but here are a few that I have found lately:
YouTube Yoga Find
It’s been over nine months since I yoga’d. After realizing how tight my hips and hamstrings were, it was time to get my om on. I searched for “power yoga” and stumbled upon Ali Kamenova’s YouTube channel. Her workouts are tough…especially if you resemble the Tin Man.
She has a lot of videos and I’ve done a few of them so far. This hip opener class was really challenging for me. Her doggy always makes an appearance too, which sometimes makes me lose my focus, but I don’t really mind it. Her body is rockin’ and so are her classes!
YouTube brings the Barre
Ahh, Barre workouts. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the concept, but I’ve always hated how much they cost. I’ve been trying to get some barre workouts in at least 1-2 times a week. Trying to tighten up this postpartum belly is proving to be quite the challenge!
The Fitnessista has some barre burner workouts. They are short and can be repeated. I like to do these videos when I’m tight on time. This total body barre burner was great!
When I have some more time, I like to try and get a longer workout in and I’ve done this barre workout by Brittany Bendall twice. I really like it! Her music is pretty darn good too! First she takes you through an arms section, then legs, then abs. Definitely gets it all burnin’!
I’ve found some more YouTube barre workouts, but I’ve yet to try them! I’ll let you know once I do.
Dusting off the DVD’s
Since I’ve had the tiny man, my DVD player has been getting a workout along with me! I am kind of the queen of fitness DVD’s. I have Jackie, Jillian, P90x, MTV yoga & pilates (these DVD’s are pretty old, but they are awesome), Physique 57, and the newest video in my collection…Buti Yoga.
I saw a commercial for Buti Yoga while I was pregnant and (of course) I was like, “I totally need this!”. Thanks to my mama for indulging my Christmas wish, I finally got to break out the DVD in April. Now, if you are a yoga purist, you are not going to like this workout. If you like a little funk in your yoga, you’re gonna love it. Think yoga meets belly dancing meets African dance with some mountain climbers and burpees thrown in for good measure.
All of my DVD’s have been getting some play time, but Buti Yoga is on repeat. I’ve been doing the 45 min workout, but I think I’m ready to take on the 60 min.
So…what is the point of all of this??? Well, you don’t have to spend buku bucks to get your sweat on to boutique classes. Whether it’s Buti, Barre, or yoga…you can get it done in the comfort of your own home. Obviously, DVD’s cost a bit of money, but no where near the cost of in studio classes.
Do you use YouTube to get your sweat on? Know of any channels I should be subscribing to? Let me know!
